Polen u Baltikum Teil 1

Starting in Krakow we travel on to Warsaw, we mainly enjoy nature and the beautiful campsites.

In the following place we heard dears yelling their courtship song (not sure about the translation at the moment - basically males and females calling each other in order to mate). During the evening a mystical fog visited us through the meadows and we felt like part of a fairytale.

The last night in Poland we spent on an official campsite in the region of Masuria. The campsite is lead by a couple with special care and passion. During the evening the guy walked around the campsite with a basket filled with candles and lit lanterns all over the place - he did this even though we were the only visitors. Soon most campsites will close down for winter and we will be on our own.

Mir luege üs z Pole no dr Nationalpark Biebrza per Velo ah.

Last stop in Poland is the nature park Biebrza, we have a look by bike. In theory one could see elks here, but we mainly observe birds, water and lots of grass.
It seems like in poland every village has a bigger bird nest than the next. They are usually set in a basked specifically for the purpose of nesting. We don't know exactly which birds next here during springtime, but we have a good guess...

We travel on in the direction of Lithuania and soon after Latvia. It's the first time we see an ocean during our trip away. The baltic sea is rough but only slightly salty. The only people who feel like a bath in the baltic sea in this season are local tough guys. And of course sea gulls.

Wüus hie sehr kompliziert mit Fische isch und mir ändlich üses Glück bim Fische wei probiere, fahre mir wyter nach Lettland.

In Lithuania getting a permit to fish is quite complicated. After failing we drive on to Latvia where the process is much simpler. And we finally want to give our fishing rods a try!

And to our own surprise we catch a pike after a bit of patience. The following dinner was very delicious.

Lettland gfaut üs sehr guet. S het wahnsinnig schöni Wälder, schöni Bäch, nätti Mönsche und mir gseh sogar üse erscht Elch (leider isch dr Kameramaa z langsam gsi für die Elchchueh wo vor üsem Outo isch düre gumpet).

We like Latvia a lot. The forests are very beautiful, so are the streams and rivers. The people are very nice and we even see our first elk (unfortunately the camera was too slow as the huge animal just ran across the street while we were driving).

In Ventspills mache mir e «schöne» Strandspaziergang und loufe zumene zimlech windige und nasse Lüchtturm use – d Biuder säge gloub aues... S het so fescht gluftet dass mir nachem Spaziergang zrugg vom Lüchtturm de ume troche gföhnet si gsi.

In Ventspills we go on a "lovely" walk along the beach. Its pretty windy and wet - you can see for yourselves how wet... The wind was so strong though that on the way back from the lightshouse we get blown dry.

... to be continued
