Äs Läbenszeiche us Griecheland und üse Wäg vom Norde i Süde

Chli lang isches här wo mir zletscht hei Glägeheit gha, üs z mäude. Viu isch sithär passiert. Mir dänke zrugg a üsi wunderschöne, aber isch-chalte Nächt unterem nordische Himmu mit Nordliechtsichtige. Nach üsere ideale Vorstellig hätte mir gärn viu meh vo Norwege und o vo Schwede gseh. Es paar Gründ hets aber gä fürne "Flucht nach vorne". Ei wichtige Grund: Sehnsucht nach Wermi. So simer mitere Fährifahrt vo Oslo nach Kopenhagen und ere länge Fahrt dür Dütschland, d Schwiz, Italie, Slowenie, Kroatien, Serbie, Bulgarie schlussendlich nach Griecheland cho. In Kroatie und Bulgarie hei mir üs Zyt gno, no chli z verwile und es paar Sache aluege, aber immer mitem Ziel, füre Winter nach Griecheland z cho, wo mir jetz o si.

In Kroatie hei mir üs zersch Rovinji agluegt, es wunderschöns Hafestädtli.

It has been a long time since you have heard from us last, a lot has happened since then. In the last post we have showed you georgous nights under clear sky with northern lights and amazing landscapes. Did we mention COLD? We love scandinavian landscape and would have liked to see more of it, the coldness of the north gave us a hard time, so we decided to fast travel back to the south, where the nights are shorter and air is warmer. And so drove to Oslo and made use of very affordable ferry from Oslo to Copenhagen and drove through Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece. We stayed in Bulgaria for two weeks, until the night temperatures got under freezing points and persuaded us to continue to Greece.

The port-city of Rovinji in Croatia left beautiful impressions on us.

Finding campsite in Croatia is much more troublesome than in the Scandinavia. There was a beautiful campsite on a mountain on the Island of "Krk" though:

We enjoyed the mild climate in Croatia during our stay there, we drove back from winter to autumn, one could say almost back to summer.

Inland of croatia we found a campsite near the Croatian-Bosnian border beside an old "parked" and abandonned wreckage of an airplane.

Z schönschte in Kroatie isch dr Bsuech vo de Plitvica-See gsi. Düre Kalkstei hie gits schöni klari, blaui See zmitzt i de grüene Wälder. D See si verbunde dür unzähligi Wasserfäll. Mä cha sich das chli vorstelle wie dr Blausee, eifach uf vilne verschidene Stöck und öppe 20 verschideni See.

By far our most beautiful experience in Croatia is our visit in the Plitvica lakes nationalparc. The blue crystal clear water in the middle of green forests. The lakes are multi leveled and connected to each other through beautiful waterfalls.

Insgesamt 12 Kilometer si mir a däm Tag gloffe, d Häufti dene schöne Gwässer entlang, dr Räscht dürne Wald.

In 12 kilometers, one can walk around the national parc to see different lakes and forests.

Nach total verregnete Täg im Nordoste vo Kroatie hei mir üs du entschiede, wyter z zieh. E Transit dür Serbie isch üs erloubt gsi und so heimer das Land leider usglah und si in Bulgarie glandet.

Then it rained a lot in Croatia, so we decided to travel on. Due to current situation, we were allowed to transit through Serbia in under 12 hours, so we unfortunately more or less saw only serbian highway and a little bit of Belgradian traffic jam, until we arrived in Bulgaria.

Bulgarie isch eis vo de ermschte EU-Länder und dä Unterschied merkt mä relativ dütlich. D Lüt si zwar eher schüüch, aber trotzdäm neugierig. Und o wenn sie fasch ke Änglisch chöi und mir leider (fasch) ke Bulgarisch, hei sie aube chli mit üs wöuä rede. So heimer ohni gmeinsami Sprach amene Jeger erklärt wie mir reise und wo mir häre göh. Im Boumarkt hei mir o e defekt koufte Invertor chönne umegäh ohni dass sie üsi Wort direkt verstande hei und o ohni die eigentlich erforderlichi bulgarischi Adresse.

Bulgaria is on of the poorest countries in the EU and that can be seen at a glance. People are quite shy in approaching, but still a bit curious. English is sparsely spoken. Nevertheless, people try to have a conversation with us in Bulgarian language so we tried our best to communicate with them with our little to none Bulgarian knowledge. We could explain to a curious hunter how we travel and where we plan to go, to which he was thrilled. In a hardware store, we could even return a defective DC-AC Inverter without them understanding a word of what we said.

On a very foggy day we visited a fascinating fortress of Belogradchik. Even though the visibility was low, we could see the complex and beautifully structured stone formations, wherein the fortress was built.

In the middle of beautiful stone formations, we found a (4x4) campsite to set up a camp at.

Almost every stone-formation there is a legend to be told, for example from a nun named Madonna who had an affair with a knight and had to flee from her monastery with her newborn child.

Bulgarie het unzähligi Höhline und Steiformatione. So si mir ufem Wäg in Richtig Schwarzes Meer zersch ar «God’s Bridge» verbicho.

Bulgaria is rich in caves and stone formations. On our way to the black sea, we went past "god's bridge".

Next stop was a cave called "god's eyes".

Die imposante Löcher ir Dili wärde vor auem vo Tube und Flädermüüs brucht zum useflüge. Und die ganzi Höhli isch es Daheime für ganz vili Tier. So zum Bispiu o fürnes chlises Wiseli.

The richness of natural caves within the cave is home to many bats, birds, and various other animals. The surrounding of the cave is home to various species, for example this weasel:

The weasel with a mouse in it's fang suddenly stopped in front of Selina, without looking where is was. Startled, it let go of the mouse and ran away to hide. after a minute, it came back to get the mouse it left behind. for 15 minutes, the weasel ran and jumped around with the mouse while looking at us.

As we left, we noticed that the weasel was trying to get home to its cave, the cave was right behind us. It dissappeared into the cave with its pray.

Momo needed some taking care of. While we were driving through road with many holes and some rougher terrain, we conctantly hear some qiecking noise from the left side of the car. This sound is familiar to us, we needed to change the upper left ball stud. We had a ball stud as a spare with us, although without appropriated ball joint press. So we went to look for one in a local shop, and there was none to be found ofcourse. So we decided to buy some metal plates and "made our own tool with lots of ducktape (godtape).

Momo is quite happy with his new ball joint. With that we can drive on without worries.

Our cooking area needed a revision as well (we rebuilt the straps supporting the board). The chains that use to support the board got loose while making breakfast.

We also discovered a pair of headphones while inspecting the car from below.

Finally we are on our way to the black sea.

Z erschte mau am schwarze Meer si mir überrascht gsi dass mir aus erschts Schwän hei atroffe.

The first sea birds we saw on the black sea were surprisingly swans.

Hinter däm Hoger isch es schöns Übernachtigsplätzli gläge, drum het Momo uf dr einte Site uche müesse fahre und uf dr andere o wieder abe. Am nächschte Morge hei mir du no d Stigig gmässe und si uf 32° (=70%) cho. Das isch für Momo zwar machbar gsi, aber äuä chli oberi Gränze.

Behind the hill (on the photo below) was a beautiful campsite. There was quite a steep climb for Momo to overcome. The climb was 32° (70%). It was possible for our setup, although in the upper limit on semi-loose ground.

Bulgarie isch sehr schön gsi, vor auem wüu mir nid mit au dene schöne Plätzli und Steinformatione grächnet hei.

All in all we enjoyed our stay in Bulgaria with beautiful stone formations and easy to find campsites.

Bevor mir vo Bulgarie nach Griecheland hei chönne ireise hei mir no e Corona-Test müesse ga mache. So simer in Sofia ins «Remus-Lab» gange. Mir si definitiv nid di einzige wo dert wägere Reis verbi si, die hei ganz genau gwüsst was mache und ohni dass mir dernah hei müesse frage aues uf Änglisch usgstellt.
Z einzig unagnähme isch dr Naseabstrich gsi, so dass Tawan het müesse gränne. Natürlich het är när dänkt, dass wenn öpper vo üs positiv isch, das sicher är müessi si, wüu di Prob so dütlich viu töifer isch gno worde aus bi mir wo nid ha müesse Träne vergiesse ;-)

Before crossing the Bulgarian-Greece border, we had to provide a negative COVID-PCR test. SO we went into a "Remus-Lab" in the middle of Sofia. We were not the only ones. They immediately knew what we needed and so we were put on the "conyever belt".
Tawan was convinced that the result could only have been positive for him, because he shed a tear and Selina wasn't, hence the swab could have been only done correctly while testing him ;)

Glücklicherwys simer beidi negativ testet worde und hei ohni Problem über die einzig offeni Gränze in Promachonas dörfe ga. Leider isch Griecheland im Moment im Lockdown. S isch zwar nid so strikt wie mä sich das vorstellt. Mir hei dörfe ireise und o a üse Zielort gah. Theoretisch dörfte mir aber nume unterwägs si zum Ichoufe und zum Sport mache oder natürlich für jeglichi Arte vo Notfäll.
Mir si direkt ufe Peloponnes zu Fründe wo mir in Krakau scho kenne glehrt hei. D Wäut vo de Overlander entlang vor Seidenstrass isch chli und mä gseht sich meischtens mehrmals.
Hie in Arkoudi wo mir momentan si hei mir dr liebscht Gastgeber wos git, dr Giorgos vor Taverna Fargos. Für 5 Euro dörfe Camper wie mir uf sim chline Gländ übernachte. S git e warmi Duschi, Toilettene und e Wöschmaschine. Für üs dr perfekt Platz für mau chli azcho in Griecheland und es paar Tag nid unterwägs si. Am Giorgos sini Mamma isch o e super Chöchin und mä darf Bstellige mache. So simer scho i Gnuss cho vo griechischem Salat, Moussaka, Gyros, Kraken-Spinat. Dank dr Bekanntschaft mit no meh Reisende isches ganz schön, sich hie mau chli still z ha. D Zuekunft isch momentan chli ungwüss, wies nächschts Jahr wyter geit cha niemer wüsse. Dr griechisch Lockdown wird immer wieder verlängeret. Trotzdäm gits sicher schlechteri Orte für fescht z sitze. Wie dr Fritz usem Graubünde würdi säge «s gha nid immer d Sunne schiine bim Vanlife». Mir si zueversichtlich und freue üs uf das wo chunnt, egal wie und wo.

Fortunately, we were both tested positive and were allowed to cross the border and travel into Greece. The state of Greece is in lockdown, so movement between provinces is restricted. Sport activities and groceries are allowed and ofcourse emergencies. The world of overlanders on silk road is small and you meet many people more often than once. We traveled directly to our friends who we met in Krakow. In the small town of "Arkoudi" we can camp on a parking lot of a traditional greek taverne whose owner is a very nice guy and made our stay very pleasant. Giorgos allowed us to stay on his parking lot in Taverna Fargos for 5 Euro a night. There are toilets, warm showers and washing machines. It's the perfect place for us to have a little break in our journey and stay at one place for a week. We were spoiled buy delicious food the taverne provided us Moussaka, greek salad, gyros, octopuses and much more. And so we befriended and got to know many new faces and travelers with similiar goals. The future of our journey is unknown due to current situations. On the bright side: there is certainly no better place to be sitting duck at.
